Milestone Achieved: First Men’s Cohort Completes The Next Chapter Program at Gateway

Updated: Oct 14, 2025

The Next Chapter Men’s Cohort Completes Transformative Journey in Mindset and Reentry Readiness

The first men’s cohort of The Next Chapter Reading and Mental Performance Program, developed by Jason Medlock and implemented in partnership with the Gateway Corrections Foundation and the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department, has successfully completed its four-week transformation cycle. Running from April 15 to May 15, the program guided participants through a structured process of self-reflection, behavioral mastery, and purpose realignment.

Rooted in the compelling narrative of Writing My Wrongs by Shaka Senghor and integrated with the neuroscience-based RPM Experience™ (React, Pace, Motivate) framework, this initiative equipped justice-involved men with practical tools to regulate emotion, rebuild confidence, and sustain motivation under pressure. Participants demonstrated measurable improvement—100% program completion, 85% enhanced emotional regulation, and 78% increased motivation—validating the program’s evidence-based approach to mindset rehabilitation.

Beyond skill acquisition, the cohort fostered authentic connection and accountability, helping participants visualize future success through employment, education, and service. As part of the broader Tackling Crime in the Red Zone (TCRZ) coalition, The Next Chapter continues to redefine reentry education—turning correctional learning into a catalyst for growth, leadership, and community reintegration.
